Design, Development, and Everything in Between. i am a web "generalist."

A generalist is someone who is knowledgable across a range of subjects. Generalists simply cover all bases, start to finish, front end to back end, and tie it all together.

A generalist’s skills revolve around a broader set of skills than most (design, html, css, interaction patterns, user psychology, information architecture, storytelling, etc).

“The problem with the Internet is that it gives you everything - reliable material and crazy material. So the problem becomes, how do you discriminate?”

WEB DESIGN

Beyond making your brand or company look good and delivering positive results, website design means planning, creation and updating of websites. Website design also involves information architecture, website structure, user interface, navigation ergonomics, website layout, colors, contrasts, fonts and imagery (photography) as well as icons design.

Web design is as much a science as it is an art form. While half of the job is based on sound coding and design know-how, the other half is based on just having an intuitive sense of what looks good and what doesn’t.

All these website elements combined together form websites. Often, the meaning of "design" is perceived solely as a visual aspect. In reality, website design includes more abstract elements such as usability, ergonomics, layout traditions, user habits, navigation logic and other things that simplify the using of websites and help to find information faster.

"People are craving this great progress in electronics, going after computers, the Internet, etc. It's a giant progress technologically. But they must have a balance of soul, a balance for human beauty. That means art has an important role."

An Effective Web Design Strategy Starts with Your Brand

So why do we need a Web Design Strategy? Because, of all of these strategies, only your Website Design Strategy is externally facing. Let's put Website Design Strategy into context to clarify how these strategies work in tandem.

Your Website Design Strategy is about making it easier for your customers and prospects to engage with you through your website. A successful website design strategy yields a user experience characterized by:

Clear messages, often a primary message with other supporting messages. Starting with a logo than can be used consistently on various platforms and in print is often a great way to starting your "brand." Below are sample logos:

Levels of content, from high level overviews on the homepage, to successive levels of depth and detail on interior pages

A "library" of interchangeable content offers utilizing a consistent visual design that grabs the reader's attention.

-Design that is "Responsive" allowing tablet and smartphone users to enjoy the same satisfying experience they get on the desktop.

-Interactivity where it matters - Be careful not to make the experience too kinetic, which can be distracting. Use diagrams with rollovers to reveal secondary levels of information, infographics that tell a business story and video where the human touch makes content more engaging.

Uncluttered overall visual design that uses images, color, type and scale to guide the visitor in a predictable path toward relevant content.

REFINE AND FINALIZE:

Detailed ideas and drafts of your brand, and visions for elements of your website. Digital mock-ups are created.

For example; here are a few iterations of logo design / web design for branding purposes presented to client/web.

FINALIZE -

Making the final concept a reality for the client.

The fun part! Let your clients and the public see your new, consistently addressed, polished, brand or identity!

RECENT PROJECTS / WEBSITES

Recently, Jordan Cortese began on a project called “Taken & Processed ” to document a journey for knowledge and awareness of photography. Along the way Jordan meets like-minded individuals discovering their passion of mobile photography and photography in general. Jordan’s subjects give us a fresh take into their thoughts and drive about film, digital, and mobile photography.

Apart from what is said, Jordan does a wonderful job behind the 7D. His vision turned reality is a great piece of videography.

I was honored to be a part of it.
